POLYSTYROL-KUNSTSTOFFE

Polystyrol (Kurzzeichen PS, andere Namen: Polystyren, IUPAC-Name: Poly(1-phenylethan-1,2-diyl)) ist ein transparenter, geschäumt weißer, amorpher oder teilkristalliner Thermoplast. Amorphes Polystyrol ist ein weit verbreiteter Kunststoff, der in vielen Bereichen des täglichen Lebens zum Einsatz kommt.
Polystyrol wird entweder als thermoplastisch verarbeitbarer Werkstoff oder als Schaumstoff (expandiertes Polystyrol – EPS) eingesetzt. Bekannte Handelsnamen für Polystyrolschaumstoff sind Styropor, Styrodur (Deutschland), Austrotherm (Österreich), Sagex (Schweiz), Hungarocell (Ungarn), Floormate, Jackodur, Lustron, Roofmate, Styrofoam (USA), Telgopor (spanischsprachige Länder) und Frigolit (BASF).
